Year 1 Investigate Fish
Year 1’s trip to the 16th Century Mill in Sturminster Newton was a standout moment of the week! The children were captivated as they discovered how flour was made in the past. Their ability to retain and recall the fascinating facts they learned was phenomenal as they eagerly described the enormous millstones and how they ground the wheat into flour, just like the Little Red Hen.
On Thursday, these hands-on experiences proved invaluable as the children wrote accounts of their day out, confidently using time openers to structure their writing.
The week continued with snappy mathematicians and curious scientists!
Our “crocodile maths” was snappy and fun this week! The children enjoyed comparing numbers using the greater than (>), less than (<), and equal to (=) symbols, snapping their way through the learning with enthusiasm.
In Science, we continued our exploration of living things. Building on last week’s focus on mammals, this week we investigated fish. The children were fascinated to learn how fish breathe using gills, how they move, and how their bodies differ, noticing features like scales and fins.
