Reception Enjoy Story 'Stone Soup'

There’s definitely an autumnal feel in the air this week, and the children have been embracing the season in all sorts of wonderful ways!

In English, we explored the story, Stone Soup, which sparked some lovely conversations about teamwork and the amazing things we can achieve when we work together. The children wrote shopping lists and recipes, and on Friday, they had the chance to make their very own hearty soup—no stones included! It was a joy to see them carefully chopping vegetables, adding herbs and stock, and working together to create something delicious. There was plenty to go around, and everyone enjoyed a warm bowl of soup to end the week.

In Forest School, the children crunched through the woods and took a closer look at the changing leaves. They were able to identify several tree species in our woodland, showing great curiosity and observation skills.

In maths, we’ve been focusing on subitising—recognising numbers without counting—and exploring different ways to represent numbers. This has supported our work on grouping and sorting, helping the children build strong foundations in number sense.

It’s been a busy and exciting week, full of learning, collaboration, and seasonal exploration!
