Year 1 Work on Animal Classification
Year 1 have journeyed from trip-trapping goats to a hardworking hen as we explored this week’s tale, ‘The Little Red Hen’. With our expressive storytelling actions, we enthusiastically retold, sequenced, and even hot-seated the characters, bringing the story to life in our classroom!
Our English lessons sparked some philosophical thinking too. We asked: Should the Little Red Hen have shared her bread? The discussions were thoughtful and lively!
In Maths, Year 1 are loving problem-solving, finding one more and one less, and representing calculations through pictures, words, and numbers. Their confidence is growing every day.
Art got wonderfully messy as we created handprint hens, exploring textures, colours, and materials to craft some comical characters from the story. Meanwhile, in Forest School, our skeleton creations were incredible! Using natural materials, we built birds, humans, and animals with impressive creativity.
Science took us on a journey into animal classification. We visited the guinea pigs and had a fascinating discussion about mammals, what makes them special and how we care for them.
We are so proud of our Year 1 learners for developing their independence and showing a real love of learning. Their curiosity and enthusiasm shine through in everything they do!
