Year 8 Trip to Lulworth Cove

We had a very windy trip to Lulworth Cove this year!

Pupils who ended the day with all their sheets still on their clipboards deserved a medal! Thankfully, it stayed dry and sunny throughout our time there, which helped a lot.

Pupils were investigating whether tourism is causing irreversible damage at Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, and conducting their own surveys to find the answer to this enquiry question. We were delighted with their proactivity in asking members of the public and staff, particularly the Ranger, who mentioned that 160kg of litter was once left on the beaches in the area in a single day!

Having completed the fieldwork, we are now writing it all up, producing graphs in Excel, and analysing the results. There's plenty to focus on, as we collected a wealth of data, and this will be our focus in Year 8 Geography lessons over the next few weeks.

If you have any personal experiences of how the Jurassic Coast has changed over the years, please do let Year 8 know—it will be very useful for their project write-ups.
