Year 1 Inspired by Clever Cows and Ducks

Year 1 burst into the new school year with excitement and curiosity after the summer holidays! The classrooms echoed with a click clack, clickety clack as the children discovered an old typewriter—just like the one in the story Click Clack Moo. Enthralled by the tale, they explored the magic of communication through typing and imagination.

Inspired by the clever cows and ducks in the story, the children let their creativity soar. They designed amazing ponds for ducks, complete with diving boards, pedalo boats with slides, and even rubber rings! Then, just like the animals in the book, they wrote their own letters—full of personality and flair.

In maths, the fun continued as Year 1 sorted colourful objects into groups and practiced counting using bead strings, cubes, and ten frames. Their enthusiasm was infectious as they explored numbers in playful, hands-on ways.

Art lessons brought a splash of colour to the classroom, with Vincent Van Gogh’s vibrant style sparking inspiration. The children painted bold, beautiful sunflowers, using expressive brushstrokes and bright hues to bring their masterpieces to life.

To kick off their science topic, the children began learning about the human body. Working together, they draw and labelled bodies, asking curious questions, showing a real eagerness to understand how we’re put together.

What a creative, curious, and joyful start to Year 1—it’s clear this class is ready for a year full of discovery!
