Year 1 Get Descriptive
This week, Year 1’s embarked on a captivating journey with the beloved story "The Snail and the Whale" by Julia Donaldson. The tale of the tiny snail and the enormous whale not only enchanted the young learners but also inspired a variety of writing opportunities.
In their English lessons, the children delved into descriptive writing, using similes to bring the characters and settings to life. Phrases like "The snail was as small as a grain of sand" and "The whale was as big as a mountain" filled their books, showcasing their growing creativity and understanding of literary devices. They wrote heartfelt letters of thanks to the whale from the snail.
Maths lessons this week focused on the concept of time. Our Reception children learned to read both digital and analogue clocks, practicing telling the time to the hour and half-hour. In art, we used splashes of creativity as the children created moving “Lighthouse Keepers Lunch” pictures. Using a variety of materials, they depicted a colourful ocean scene complete with a moving basket and a cottage on a cliff. In Topic, we learned about oceans and how to label them on a map using an atlas to help.
The week ended on a high with our Prizegiving. We are so very proud of all the children!
