Year 1 Think About Lifecycles

The week started with a mystery egg in the curiosity box. The children had lots of questions about the egg! It slowly started to hatch to reveal a baby crocodile! Don’t worry, parents, it was not a real one! We used this exciting event to think about lifecycles in Science and worked on developing our understanding of how lifecycles repeat themselves and how they are different for reptiles and mammals.

In English, we loved innovating our own Tingatinga tales using a story mountain format. We had “Why Monkey Eats Bananas,” “Why Flamingo Stands on One Leg,” and “Why Leopard Has Rosettes.” The children wrote the most amazing stories using their wonderful story language. In maths, we learned how to find change by counting on and finding the difference, as well as adding and subtracting amounts of money. We also tackled some word problems related to money. Our completed Tingatinga-inspired art is incredible, with brightly coloured animals of all descriptions. We had the privilege of meeting the author of the Tingatinga tales, Claudia Lloyd, who read us her favourite story on Teams. Thank you to Mrs. Hawkins for helping to organise this. Meeting our teacher for next year was met with much excitement, and we enjoyed our picnic very much! We are looking forward to a busy week next week!
