Year 1 Create Story Mountains
Do you know how the elephant got his trunk? This week, Year 1 enjoyed reading traditional African tales and using the story mountain to identify parts of this entertaining tale. The children noticed the problem: poor elephant had no nose and was very “pongy”! The nasty crocodile helped to solve the problem by pulling his nose into a long trunk, and at last, he could have a shower! The children loved the story and made amazing story mountains to retell the story, as well as using their actions to embed the story language into their writing. In maths, we have worked on finding totals of money, making sure we add the largest coin first, as well as using our number facts to help us add. The highlight of our week was our fantastic visit to Longleat to see so many of the animals we learned about during our Africa topic. We loved the giraffe and the amazing rhino. DJ Jenx played some of the best tracks in the minibus for a perfect Longleat singalong!
