Pre-School Read ‘What the Ladybird Heard at the Seaside’

Pre- School have been reading the story, ‘What the Ladybird Heard at the Seaside’ this week and we have really enjoyed using actions to accompany the repeated phrases in the text. We have been using the stem sentence “I can see…” to talk about what we observed on different pages of the story- we then talked about what sounds we could hear at the start of the words. Using a sound mat, we identified the correct sounds and made marks to communicate our ideas. Lots of children are demonstrating a strong pencil grip with everyone else continuing to strengthen their hand/finger muscles.

We had lots of fun exploring the colours of paint in the illustrations in our story and then experimenting to recreate them by colour mixing. We then used glue and sparkles to create a ladybird trail. We used lines and circles to create a pattern in glue before sprinkling with sparkles. Lots of children have made upcycled models which have been taken home enthusiastically- we are exploring different techniques to join pieces together and deciding on the most effective technique for each project.

In PE, we have been practising for sports day through using throwing, catching, jumping and running activities.
