Year 5 A Midsummer Night's Dream
Year 5 have thrown themselves wholeheartedly into their production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream — and what a joy it has been to watch their confidence and creativity blossom.
The play was shared between the three Year 5 classes, with each group taking on different scenes and characters from Shakespeare’s magical comedy. From mischievous fairies to confused lovers and a hilariously chaotic group of actors, every pupil embraced the opportunity to bring this timeless tale to life.
In our drama lessons leading up to the performance, the focus was clear: to build confidence, develop vocal strength and clarity, and explore physicality and expression. Rather than relying on a large set or elaborate props, the stage was intentionally kept simple — allowing the children’s acting to take centre stage.
Through their voices, facial expressions, and physical storytelling, the pupils told this adaptation of Shakespeare’s story with clarity, energy, and humour. It was wonderful to see them enjoy being on stage, supporting each other, and performing with such enthusiasm and commitment.
Their hard work and team spirit have been evident in every rehearsal. This experience has not only deepened their understanding of drama and Shakespeare, but has also allowed them to grow as performers — and as confident young people ready to take on new challenges.
I am so very proud of them all.
