Year 1 Enjoy a Visit from Mr Stok

"Bear's Magic Pencil" by Anthony Browne had the Year 1 children thinking about "Our Wonderful World", this term’s topic in Year 1, and particularly endangered animals. We loved the Bear character who came up with great solutions on how to save his endangered friends.  The children made posters and mind maps thinking of ways to help and we all decided we wanted to learn more about amazing animals around the world. The highlight of our week was a visit from Mr Stok to finish off our history topic from last term. The children loved looking at all the fascinating artifacts from homes in the past and what they were used for. They were very surprised that none of the objects could plug in and that a lot of muscle power was needed! In maths we learnt how to share to find out if numbers were odd or even and made sure we used practical equipment to consolidate our understanding. Using atlases in geography, the children found the continent of Africa on a map and enjoyed finding other places they know. What a fabulous start to the Summer term!
