Year 1 Work on Fractions

“That Pesky Rat” was a perfect text to help Year 1 practise innovating a story, encouraging creativity and fun! The children innovated the main character and settings, coming up with some amazing new homes for this character including living in castles made of gold! In maths, we worked hard to develop our understanding of parts of shapes, developing an early understanding of fractions. The children cut, folded, coloured and discussed fractions of shape and numbers. Our favourite maths lesson was cutting cookie dough into equal pieces, a great problem-solving task. In History, we used books to find out about what homes looked like in the past and began to notice differences. Getting out and about in the sunny weather was just what we needed during Forest school and our P.E. lessons! Perhaps Spring is in the air!
