Year 2 Meet Some Famous Nurses
What a busy term! At last, we are seeing more daylight at the beginning and end of the school day. We recently went on a walk around the school grounds looking for signs of spring. The snowdrops were the first obvious sign we discovered as we walked into the school woods. A carpet of white flowers with their heads pointing towards the ground to protect the delicate flower from the inclement weather we often experience in January. Mrs Millard also showed many of the buds on the wide variety of trees we have out there. Sharing with us the signs of the different animals that live out there. We were able to spot the squirrels dreys- a ball of interwoven twigs, lined inside with soft materials including moss, leaves, grass and fir. Dreys are usually located in the fork of a branch tight against the tree trunk, around two-thirds of the way up the tree.
As the seasons progress, we have also changed one of our topics. The children have been introduced to the world of some famous nurses Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale. These two wonderful ladies fought against many hardships and a variety of bureaucratic procedures to succeed in their fields. We have started to investigate the journeys these ladies took to achieve their goals. No matter what problem was put in their way they found a path through which connects with our PSHE topic about how we achieve our goals.
