Year 2 Make Mexican Masks
Year 2 have been inspired by the mask makers of Tocuaro in Mexico this week. In this small village in the Mexican countryside, the Horta family carve traditional wooden masks. The children used these ideas to build 3D paper masks. They used the reuse, recycle idea to find materials to create their masks. A gradual build-up of layers of card, tissue paper was held on with pva glue and masking tape. The masks quickly took shape and developed a character of their own. The children really enjoyed adding hair, beards, moustaches, and any other addition their imaginations could think of adding. The children loved creating their masks and bringing them to life! It has been a busy week as we have also finished our topic on the Great Fire of London. It ended with a fabulous workshop from Iona’s Mummy. We were able to use her expertise to explore the changes in architecture that happened in London during the 1600s. it was wonderful to have a visitor with such a wealth of information to share with us all.
