Year 1 Plan How to Catch a Star
“How to Catch a Star” by Oliver Jeffers has been a favourite story this term and the children have loved the idea of having our very own star to keep, take for walks or play hide and seek with.
Year 1 created the most amazing story maps to retell each part of the story and came up with some wonderful, innovative ideas on how they would catch a star! We have petrol powered trampolines, Daddys firing children out of cannons, rockets, stilts and much more! In maths we have been adding to make 8 and 9 learning these number pairs as well as making sure our understanding of place value is secure using different strategies to find 10s and 1s.
The boys and girl enjoyed learning about astronauts Tim Peake and Mae Jemison in our History lessons. Setting goals was the theme of our PSHE lessons and the Year 1 children set good goals including picking up a sinker from the bottom of the pool independently, riding bikes without stabilisers and learning to project voices louder when talking and reading.
They understood how to set achievable goals and thought of the steps required to achieve them.
