Year 2 Try Chinese Calligraphy
Quivering quills were in use this week as the Year 2 children transported themselves back to September 1666. They all became diarists and stepped back in time to experience life as Samuel Pepys. What a busy life Samuel has been living, the details of his day have been described in intimate detail by all the children. To help immerse the children in their role they wore a “periwig” a fashion encouraged by King Charles II and held a quill.
We were also very lucky to have our Mummy’s and Daddys in to join us for Play and Learn this week. As we are celebrating Chinese New Year as a school, we decided to put their Stem skills to the test and get them to help us make Fortune Cookies and write appropriate fortunes to go inside. Making the cookie shape was a fun stem challenge. Luckily, we got to eat the real things at our special Chinese New Year lunch, which was delicious, many of us were keen to use chopsticks to eat this lunch - another fun challenge. To finish off our celebrations we were lucky enough to have Miss Gillow demonstrate the fine art of calligraphy. We then were able to try drawing the Chinese characters ourselves a very different handwriting lesson.
