Bird Sculptures by Year 5

5H are currently making their very own bird sculpture in Art! They started the project by sketching different bird species and attempting to achieve accurate proportions and details. We then looked at recreating the style of illustrator and artist Mark Hearld, who makes bold mixed-media prints and paintings depicting common native wildlife and birds. Once we had finished our various 2D explorations, we moved on to the sculpting part of the project. In their first lesson, pupils used newsprint paper, masking tape, card, and florist wire to begin modelling their birds. Once the form is complete, they will move on to using some textured acrylic paint effects to bring their feathered friend to life! The pupils are enjoying the opportunity to learn new methods and problem-solve as they go. We look forward to seeing the finished birds in the next week or two.
