Nursery Discover a Mystery Penguin

This week we have been on an exciting adventure with Jonty Gentoo the Penguin and what a better way to start it than by celebrating 'World Penguin Awareness Day'. On Monday, we received a mysterious box, where we discovered a penguin. We then read the story 'Jonty Gentoo' by Julia Donaldson and found out that Jonty had ended up at our Nursery on his way to the South Pole! All week the children have been completing missions to help Jonty on his way including: using their number skills to feed Jonty fish, making bridges to help him escape the hungry skills and helping to free the baby penguins from their eggs as Jonty makes it to the North Pole, from the Zoo, to meet his penguin family.

It has been a good opportunity to develop the children's story telling and problem-solving skills, whilst learning about the world around them and the different climates animals need to live in. It has also sparked curiosity and imagination when looking at the World Map to work out how we could get Jonty safely to the South Pole!
