Welcome Back to Our Hazlegrove Boarders
“If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again.” This timeless phrase, attributed to Robert the Bruce of Scotland, perfectly encapsulated our weekend.
We began with a hearty breakfast followed by an inspiring chapel service led by Mr Shaw, emphasising the importance of prayer. The excitement rose as our boarders were divided into nine teams, mixing pupils from Year 3 to Year 8, to compete in the Hazlegrove Team Challenge. Each team, guided by a leader, navigated various school locations, striving to earn points in a series of diverse activities. From the Drainpipe Challenge to the Floating Stick task, the range of activities tested their skills and teamwork.
It was truly heartwarming to see the teams embrace the spirit of the competition, offering encouragement and support to one another. The determination and effort displayed by the children were remarkable. The Year 8s set a stellar example, and the camaraderie and sportsmanship were a joy to witness. Perhaps the most gratifying aspect was seeing our younger boarding pupils seamlessly working so well with the Year 8s. The welcoming and inclusive nature of our boarders is part of what makes Hazlegrove such a special place.
After the morning’s hustle and bustle, the children stayed on-site, making the most of the wonderful facilities. They relaxed in the art room, engaged in an epic battle of Capture The Flag, enjoyed a competitive game of hockey, or simply rode their bikes.
What a fantastic way to kick off the Spring term—having fun with friends and creating cherished memories!
