Hazlegrove come Third at the U13 National IAPS Hockey Finals

On Tuesday, our 1st VII travelled to Millfield to compete in the National Hockey Finals – something they had qualified for by winning the South West Regional Tournament back in February.

They finished the morning having won their group -  they had the following results:

The New Beacon     3-0

Dulwich Prep           2-1

Town Close             1-1

Orwell Park             3-1

This set up a quarter final with Framlingham and it was a very tense and exciting match – 0-0 at fulltime, 0-0 after extra time. It then went to penalty flicks.  Hazlegrove won 4-3 – and progressed to the semi-finals.

We then had a quick turn around and with emotions running high after the exhausting flicks, the semi-final match was against a very well organised, skilful and well drilled Bilton Grange team.  Bilton Grange won 4-1 after a good performance.

Hazlegrove then had the 3rd/4th play off – desperately trying to secure that third place and the bronze medals.  Again a very close encounter ensued which finished 1-1.  Hazlegrove managed to score the winning goal in the first minute of extra time/golden goal, to secure the bronze medals.

Out of the original 91 school entries Hazlegrove are very proud to have finished 3rd in the country.
