An Excellent Hazlegrove and King's Bruton Joint Concert

An Excellent Hazlegrove and King's Bruton Joint Concert

Hazlegrove children thoroughly enjoyed welcoming musicians from King’s Bruton on Friday evening for our bi-annual Joint Concert.

Held in the theatre at Hazlegrove, our children joined with older pupils to perform pieces such as Copland’s Rodeo in joint ensembles throughout the evening. With only four weeks of rehearsals, and during an extremely busy start to the school year, we were extremely proud of the standard set by our budding musicians. Our singers and instrumentalists contributed with huge energy and enthusiasm during the concert and set the tone for future events with their high standard of performance.

We all thoroughly enjoyed the evening, which was memorably rounded off by a rousing rendition of This is Me from The Greatest Showman. Our singers knocked the audience’s socks off, showing just how much music is a part of life here at Hazlegrove, and giving a glimpse into what can be looked forward to in our Carol Service at Wells at the end of term.

A special mention must go to Hector Sheldrick, wonderfully supported by our bagpipes teacher, Mr Cranfield, who performed four Scottish tunes accompanied by the King’s Military Band, and to our fabulous Year 7 Rock Band, who performed a piece of their own creation. Well done also to our senior instrumentalists, who were spotted in several joint ensembles, providing much-valued support to the King’s musicians.

This superb display of talent shows how much there is to celebrate in music here at the School. Your children have worked incredibly hard this term and last night’s concert gave them a wonderful opportunity to share their moment with some of our musical staff. A huge ‘thank you’ to Mr Lambton (clarinet/saxophone), Mr Serna (cello), Mrs Moore (piano), Mrs Toornent (bass guitar), Mr Merry (horn), Mr Angel (singing), Miss Rudd (percussion, clarinet), Mrs Hughes (viola), Mrs Seery (oboe, singing), Mrs Sclater (violin, saxophone) and of course, our Headmaster, Mr Benbow (horn), for their support during the evening.

We look forwards to seeing you at future events throughout the year. Please keep an eye on the calendar for our regular Friday Concerts, services, productions and Festival Concerts. You are always very welcome.
