Prep About

We have been exercising our brains with some ‘Big Brain Questions’ early on a Friday morning. Our first story was based on the story of Zhuangzi and the butterfly, and Mrs Hughes asked the question in last Friday’s assembly: ‘Is there any way you can be absolutely sure you are not dreaming at the moment? How do you know this world is real?’

We were very impressed with the discussions that were overheard in the playground over the next week, with some Year 6 pupils in particular coming up to tell us their answers and further thoughts:

  • I know it’s real because all my senses are involved…
  • If life is a dream then everyone around me is just in my imagination…
  • In real life, things happen in order, they don’t jump around…
  • In real life, I make decisions. I feel like dreams happen to me, I can’t make choices in my dreams…

Over to you: how would you say that you can tell the world around you is not just a dream?
