West African Artefact Exploration Session for Year 6

Year 6 Begin West African Studies

Year 6 have begun their new History topic with an artefact exploration session looking at objects connected with West Africa, identifying those which were imported from Europe to West Africa and imported from West Africa to Europe in the 16^th and 17^th centuries.

They learnt about the wide-ranging trade links which the West African Kingdom of Benin has established, from Europe to the Indian Ocean, and recognised that they were, although small, a formidable trading partner and political power in the area. This promises to be an exciting and fascinating topic of study, with great opportunity for comparison between the Kingdom of Benin and their previous studies of Tudor England.
