Year 7 have been designing winter hats and pyjama shorts this term in Design Technology.
As part of this, they have learnt how to thread up a sewing machine independently, and how to sew and appliqué around shapes. Lots of the children have compared it to driving and to using the Hegnar saws in the workshop - the harder you press the pedal, the faster you go! It is similar to both and definitely an important life skill to learn.
The winter hats are fantastic, and many have ears and gloves attached to keep children toasty and warm. Pyjama shorts are looking fantastic and we have had quite a fashion show at various stages, which is great fun. Some of the children have been designing embroidery patterns to decorate their hats and shorts which will be embroidered on our new CAD embroidery machine. We even have an embroidered Hazlegrove house being created.
