Turkish Delight for Hazlegrove Biathletes

Over half term five Hazlegrove children and one member of staff travelled to Turkey to represent Great Britain in the European Biathle Championships.  A biathle is a continuous run-swim-run competition and is run by Pentahlon-GB and the equivalent National Federations in other countries.

The GB team consisted of 34 British athletes who had all been selected following the British Championships in August.  The week in Turkey proved to be a fabulous experience with the children all having the opportunity to meet likeminded children from across Europe.

The Hazlegrove contingent certainly performed well above our expectations and we came home with a good array of medals...

  • In the first event of the championships, the Mixed Relay event, Anya Evans and Sam Cobb won gold after a very tense and exciting race.
  • Angus Evans, Josh Cobb and Anya Evans were all part of their age groups gold winning teams.
  • Harriet Tuson ran a superb race to take the bronze individual medal and helping her GB team to gain the silver medal.
  • Sam Cobb ran a very determined race to come from behind to clinch victory in his age group and to become crowned European Champion.
  • Mrs Evans finished second in the Masters category.

It was a fabulous experience and to watch the children collecting their medals on the podium whilst singing the National Anthem was incredible – Mrs Fawbert would have been very proud!
