On Saturday 20th May, twelve of our Year 7 pupils set out to compete in this year's Exmoor Challenge.

Completing a gruelling 16-mile hike across varied terrain, whilst arriving at eight checkpoints at precisely the right time. Working in groups of 4, they needed to use their skills of map-reading, compass bearings, teamwork and observation as they followed the route and completed a quiz along the way.

The weather was superb and conditions were excellent, making for a very competitive event this year. There was a really exciting atmosphere on the moor, with over 500 children taking part and lots of parents and teachers on hand to support. In the end all of our competitors did incredibly well, all finishing the course and arriving at the finish line in great spirits. When the results came in, we couldn't believe our eyes...

Our boys team came in equal 1st (out of 24 teams)

Our girls team came 1st (out of 26 teams)

And our mixed team came in 4th (out of 51 teams)

How incredible to have such success - a real testament to the hard work and amazing attitude of our Hazlegrovians.

Well done to all involved - you have really done us proud! Huge thanks also to the parents who supported us so well and to Mr Shaw and Mrs Cobb for their invaluable support in preparing the teams for the event.
