Year 4 braved the Dragon's Den in their Science project

Year 4 braved the Dragon's Den in their Science project

Year 4 have been looking at different materials and their properties in Science, so a Dragon’s Den project seemed like the perfect opportunity to make links between many of the children’s different skills; encompassing their creative design skills, scientific knowledge and entrepreneurial qualities.

The children were briefed with the task of creating a product for the consumer that was original and met the needs and demands of a target group, considering the importance of the materials that they would use to make their products. Enticed by the potential £100,000 investment, the children pitched their ideas to the main dragon, Miss Flinders, and to the rest of the class (who became mini dragons in effect), asking some really thought-provoking questions about each others’ designs.

It was so hard to shortlist the top contenders for the investment as there were so many creative and inspiring designs but, due to their originality and unique selling point, the eventual new business partners were: Rosie S, Martha P-C, Oliver G-J, Gregory M, Sarah H and Alice M.

A super effort by all of Year 4.  Well done.

Miss Flinders.

"Dragons Den was a lot of fun, especially the theme tune because it made me feel like I was on the real programme." Oliver G-J

"My idea for the Dragon’s Den was making a machine to do jobs in the house if you are poorly. It was great fun drawing it and I loved telling everyone about it." Gregory M

"It was a great project because we had think about what materials would be good for the product. I designed a solar panelled microwave." Alice M
