Having just recovered from their spectacular production last week the amazing Year 3s and 4s returned to school on Monday and found themselves thrown head-first into a fun morning of challenging maths activities.

They were divided up into ten mixed-ability groups, all named after famous female mathematicians, and they spent the morning moving between five very different maths stations set up around the whole school. In the swimming pool, they explored volume and capacity in the Wacky Water challenge. In Miss Milne’s classroom they battled through a tricky Crossnumber competition. In the Bearcroft Courtyard, they learnt all about measuring and using different maths tools in Measuring Mayhem. In Mrs Lea’s classroom, they put their estimating skills to the test in Estimation Agony. Then, finally, they set out from Mrs Bartlett’s classroom on a wild maths Treasure Hunt.

At each station, they competed against different teams and showed just how much they had been learning in their maths lessons, as well their problem-solving skills and their teamwork. The supervising teacher at each activity then gave them an overall score, reflecting all these factors, out of ten.

In the end, it was Team Sophie Germain who triumphed with a remarkable 46/50, but all of the teams made a really super effort and I was delighted to see how hard they were working and how supportive and encouraging of each other they were.
