A Super Morning of Maths for Year 5

Prep Maths

On Monday Year 5 enjoyed a packed morning of varied maths activities.

They split into four mixed ability teams and pitted their wits against four very different maths challenges; designed to contextualize some of the ground work they have been covering in their maths lessons so far this term. Their estimations skills were tested as they battled through Estimation Agony, their compass reading and orienteering skills were put to the test on the Treasure Hunt as they searched for where Mr Shaw had hidden his horde of diamonds, they played a junior version of the popular countdown game in Make My Number, and finally they learnt about displacement and volume in the Wacky Waters Activity (and tried not to get too wet).

I was thrilled to see how seriously all of the Year 5s threw themselves into each of these difficult tasks and how well they worked in their mixed groups. All the teams did extremely with only three points separating first and last place – but in the end it was Team Newton who won the day.

Well done everyone – a super morning of maths.
