Year 2 Re-enact the Great Fire of London

Year 2 Re-enact the Great Fire of London

Pre-Prep

Year 2 spent a beautifully frosty morning around the fire circle watching a re-enactment of the Great Fire of London.

The children had worked hard to make 3D model houses to be the houses of Pudding Lane and one by one pulled sticks to decide whose house would be Thomas Farriner’s (the baker whose oven started the fire) and whose house would be Samuel Pepys: the man who kept a diary of the events of the Great Fire (his house did not burn down).

Charlie P’s house was chosen to be Tom Farriner’s and Zara C’s house was chosen to be Samuel Pepys.

The houses were all lined up as the children sat around the fire circle making sure to observe the fire circle rules. Mrs Millard then created the spark to start the fire at Thomas Farriner’s house and the flames quickly rose and spread to all the other houses. Year 2 watched the fire take hold of the houses thinking about the feelings of the people forced to leave their homes in the fire as well as the sights, sounds and smells of the fire itself.

Soon the embers died down and the children were reminded how quickly a fire can spread and also that a fire needs to be put out properly to avoid accidents like the Great Fire of London.
