Hazlegrove Fireworks Night is an occasion that never fails to bring delight to the children (and adults) and this year’s was no exception. After a frenzy of Guy Building the children began the long walk to the sports fields with their magnificent creations.

This year’s theme was Room 101 and there were some terrifying effigies being paraded behind the fire torches on their way to meet their grisly end on the bonfire. The atmosphere was palpable as the children approached the bonfire and after a dramatic series of bangs the bonfire was set alight.

Everyone was then free to enjoy a huge array of delicious food, from succulent Hog Roast to Wood Fired Pizzas to warming Chicken Curry. The children's tent held the promise of popcorn, crispy cakes, gingerbread men and the hugely popular toffee apples, as well as glow sticks, flashing windmills and hot chocolate.

The adults had all of these delicious options but they also had the fortunate addition of the bar where they enjoyed beer, lager, wine and mulled cider.

As if all this wasn’t enough there was even live music in the form of the Band who are a group of incredibly accomplished musicians from Year 7 and Year 8 who entertained us with their amazing covers from The Stereophonics, The Monkees and The Beatles to name but a few. A huge round of cheering and applause rang out when they finished their set, leaving the crowd wanting more.

Finally, the fireworks provided the showpiece and everyone 'oohed' and 'aahed' as they amazed us all with their incredible colours, sounds and illuminations. A truly great night and a stunning example of the Hazlegrove community pulling together to create an outstanding event for everyone to enjoy.

Many thanks go to the Friends’ Committee, the Grounds Staff and the School Kitchen who put so much time and effort into organising such a wonderful evening, ensuring everything ran smoothly and for their incredible efforts in helping to clear up the following morning in time for the rugby matches to take place.
