Lucky Year 5s have recently enjoyed another highly successful trip to Naturesbase, near Aberaeron in West Wales.  Scientific discovery, team building, shelter building and navigation were all on the agenda for a busy few days...

This is Douglas W's report on the trip:

Sunday

First was the exciting moment we were all waiting for, the morning when we set off for our Naturesbase adventure. We travelled far up through Bristol, over the amazing Severn Bridge and through Wales. We stopped after the toll for a snack and a drink and afterwards got back on the minibus and travelled through a beautiful mountain range sir told us about. Toby played us lots of songs from his iPad, and once we got there we had lunch and were showed to our dorms. Our first activity was to go around the village!

In the village there were two egg stalls, one down the bottom and one near the Commercial Inn. The second activity was to go around the farm and collect materials and make Andy Goldsworthy inspired art sculptures. Before supper, we played in the play barn. In the play barn there were three football tables, one set of bowling pins, one sand pit and a set of giant Jenga. After supper we played a stamp collecting game in which we were chased by Myles, Gyles’ evil twin brother; we were so scared! After that, it was time for the moment we have all been waiting for, BED! It was very exciting.

Monday

In the morning we woke up bright and early for breakfast, which was so yummy. In fact it was the best! We did our morning chores and got ready for a big 5 mile walk to Aberaeron. We walked through woods and fields and had lunch on a river bank. Soon, we got to the beach and tried the most amazing ice cream (I had sorbet). We made crab theme parks and I found cool quartz. Soon, we were having a delicious pasta dish, which I loved. Before bed we had a quiz and the Badgers (my team) won. We always were the champs (if you hadn’t guessed) Soon we were fast asleep in bed (sort of!).

Tuesday

Today we managed to get up on time, and had a breakfast of bacon and eggs. Today’s job was to feed the chickens, which we did as a group after breakfast. We then built fires with Gyles and Tamsin, before toasting marshmallows, which were yummy! The afternoon activity was den building! We had to pretend we were tribes from five thousand years ago, and we had to build a shelter for us all to sleep in, including our teacher! Ours was great and Tamsin then tested that they were waterproof by pouring water over the den when we were in it. We then spent the evening making journey sticks about our experience at Naturesbase, as well as making amazing pizzas in the wood-fired clay oven. The evening was finished off with a very cool sing-along around the campfire. My favourite was the little yellow bird song!

Wednesday

Wednesday morning, after eggs for breakfast and making the sandwiches, it was time to get on the minibuses and go home. We had a great time!

There are lots of lovely photos from the trip - click here to see them in Flickr
