A Brilliant Boarders' Burn Night Supper

Prep Boarding

We were treated to a superb Robert Burn’s Night supper on Tuesday evening.

Our very own Scotsman, Hector, ably supported by the legendary Mr Cranfield piped us into the dining hall. Nothing like bagpipes to set the scene! We were then treated to a traditional Scottish grace (read by Mrs Cranfield), who then also read a few extracts from the well-known and much-celebrated Scottish poet, Robert Burns. Mrs Cranfield was kind enough to translate the poems for us too…which was needed!

While doing this, the youngest members of the boarding community from each table, brandishing knives the size of the one that Crocodile Dundee wielded, stabbed their haggis! Our chef, Sylvie, paraded the oversized haggis up and down the dining room, much to the delight of the boarders. The children washed down the haggis with a tin of Irn-Bru, Scotland’s second national drink after whisky!

A hearty thanks to Mr and Mrs Cranfield and Hector, for making the evening so authentic and enjoyable and for bringing to life, the famous and much-loved Scottish poet, Robert Burns –he would have been proud of our celebration. And of course to Sylvie and her team, for the delicious meal.
