A sports round up at the end of the Autumn Term...

Rugby
It is hard to think that the now muddy pitches were so hard and dry at the start of this term.  The boys have had a great term and a special mention must go to the U10 team who have had an unbeaten season. Our U11 team played in the IAPS Tournament for the first time and all of the boys from Year 3 to Year 8 have enjoyed representing the school.

Hockey
The season finished on a real high with our youngest girls playing so well in the U8 Hazlegrove Festival – they enjoyed a lovely morning of hockey on Saturday. All of our girls can be proud of their progress and it is very rewarding to see a number of them playing in local clubs and also as part of the Player Pathway set up. The U12 team played well at the recent IAPS National Tournament and have had a superb unbeaten season in school fixtures.

Swimming
The pool continues to be a very busy area of the school, with all pupils, from the Nursery upwards, having weekly swimming lessons. Our school squads have been hard at work both in training sessions and in fixtures against Sherborne, Taunton and Port Regis. Last week, it was our Year 3, 4 and 5 children in action against Taunton School.

Cross Country
Congratulations to the twenty two Year 7 and Year 8 boys and girls who have all qualified to run in the Somerset County Championships on 19 January. There were some very impressive performances at the recent Yeovil Area Trials.

Biathlon
Well done to the four Hazlegrove pupils who travelled to Leeds over the last exeat weekend to compete in the British Championships – a wonderful experience.  We look forward to hearing who has qualified for the National Schools Finals that take place at Crystal Palace in March.

Squash
A little reminder that if children would like to use the squash courts at break and lunch times they must have indoor (non-marking) shoes and squash goggles.

Fantastic opportunities
We are very fortunate at Hazlegrove to be able to offer clubs and coaching in the following sports next term:

  • Judo
  • Karate,
  • Laser Shooting
  • Swimming
  • Golf
  • Tennis
  • Squash

Please do contact Mr Cobb if you are interested in any of the above.

Team photos
Please follow the link that was emailed home in a separate email (from Acta Diurna) if you would like to view and/or purchase the rugby and hockey team photos.

Spring Term
The boys return to play Hockey and will need their usual games kit with shin pads, mouthguards and a hockey stick.

The girls return to play Netball and will need their game kit with white socks.

School tracksuits are a MUST for everyone.

All children should have their swimming things at school every day – our PE and Games lessons can change due to factors like the weather!

Don't forget, there are lots of photographs taken at matches during the term up on Flickr.
