Outdoor Education

Hazlegrove children were all smiles as they welcomed their new additions to the Hazlegrove Farm.

8 chickens and 3 guinea pigs were the latest boarders to join the Prep School. The new guinea pig arrivals have been named by the children and are now known as Oreo, Maple and Peanut and are not short of daily visitors of children who want to cuddle them.

The 8 hens are laying eggs quite happily in their new home and it is one of the joys of the day for the children to check the nest boxes to see how many eggs they can collect.

The chickens and guinea pigs offer yet another excuse for the children to get outdoors.

The Hazlegrove Farm is very much an extension of Outdoor Education which takes place at the school, with all of the children having the opportunity to explore through Forest School sessions and gardening clubs.

Some quotes from the children:

“They are sooooo cute!”

“Utterly adorable”

“The guinea pigs are so different and each has its own character”

“Maple is quite wriggly, Peanut is so fluffy and Oreo is very cute”

“We love them!”

“We need more so that we can have more cuddles!”

“It is great that the children can learn about how to look after animals in a safe environment and we all have fun petting them and getting know them on the farm.” Mr Birch, Head of Outdoor Education.
