To celebrate the 'Festival of Curiosity', the Dragonflies and Ladybirds have explored the story “Windows” by Julia Denos.
The story shares the mystery of what is behind the windows of different places and the magic of curiosity; how a sense of safety and belonging is something to which every child is entitled too. Using their imaginations, the children discussed what they might see when looking out of the windows of different places and areas in which they live. The children thought what they might see through the window of a restaurant, including different types of food and the people they might see. Pizza was a big hit, so the children became chefs and made some delicious pizzas!
This week, the Butterflies have been very busy, from planting beans to building a bug hotel - it has been a week full of investigation, team building and creativity. On Monday, the children discovered a giant beanstalk in a cube which led them to a treasure chest of props. They used these props to retell the story of Jack and the beanstalk before planting their own beans, which they will watch grow over time, awaiting the arrival of their own giant beanstalks.
Later in the week, it was all about bugs under the ground and frogs! The children worked together to build their very own bug hotel for all the insects living in the Nursery garden. They displayed excellent teamwork and perseverance when using hammers to join the hotel together with nails. The children loved watching our new Nursery tadpole visitors develop, and have been practicing their counting, singing 'Five speckled frogs'.
