PrePrep Pre-Prep

Starting our new topic this week, in Year 1 ‘Light and Dark’ seemed very apt for the colder darker mornings and evenings that seem to be creeping in. Setting the scene in a darkened classroom, reading poems about the moon, and discussing which animals we know prefer to roam the night.

After our exploration of these nocturnal animals, we were incredibly lucky to have Alan the Owl man join us on Tuesday whooo bought in special visitors Eddie, Plop and Winston, the owls. The children enjoyed holding and stroking the feathery friends. We kept on the topic however of animals of a different kind in our maths this week. Our new topic of symmetry had us exploring symmetrical patterns via creating our own beautiful butterflies and symmetrical autumn leaves. Linking beautifully to our continued Science topic, ‘Wonderful Weather’ where we continued to focus on the four seasons and the variations of weather in each one - particularly the ever-changing leaves on the trees, we created beautiful collages and seasons wheels to demonstrate this. It’s been a real hoot in Year 1 this week!
