Year 6 Create Amazing Treasure Maps In Geography

Year 6 have been making treasure maps recently.

As well as writing instructions on the back that involve compass directions, scales and distances, to improve our keymap skills, it’s also been great fun to stain them using tea bags! Some have even had the edges burnt off and/or been put in the oven to look more authentic! As a follow-up activity in lessons, pupils have been following each other’s instructions to find their treasure, which has clarified a few misconceptions about which way round grid references need to be and how to use scales to accurately measure distances on a map.
