Everything British! The HZG boarding community celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this Sunday.

We kicked off our day of celebrations, by having a FULL English breakfast: bacon, sausages, black pudding, hashbrowns, baked beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, and scrambled egg. After breakfast, we headed off to Chapel. Mr Jenkins, in the words of Jake Gold, “You nailed it, you couldn’t have done it any better!” The children were treated to a master-class assembly, teaching the children about the origin, and meaning behind the word JUBILEE. The children played a key part in acting out the Old Testament scenario of experiencing forgiveness and something to celebrate. There was also an opportunity for the children to reflect on their own lives and those special to them.

Letter writing followed before the morning activities. The activities were: football, Jubilee Art, bunting making, indoor tennis, and scone making – by the hundreds!

Our traditional roast lunch was moved to supper and for lunch, the dining room was transformed into a Street Party, complete with flags, balloons, and banners. The food was incredible – please do have a look at the pictures. Rest in the Houses was a welcome repose. A few may even have nodded off…although the children assure me that was only the staff!

After Rest, the children had a choice of activities again, (including a spot of 6 Nations) until the next celebration…afternoon Cream Teas. What a royal feast! A movie followed, and the children all enjoyed snuggling under a blanket too. A scrumptious roast supper filled any last remaining gaps in our bellies. What a day! (A special thank you to Miss Milne for organising such an enjoyable day for all).

The children were certainly fuelled for their last week before the half-term break. I would like to wish you and your children a restful and wonderful half term when it arrives.
