Prep Boarding

Omicron, LFT-ing and travel restrictions disappeared like the Christmas pudding in our house…all was forgotten as the boarders returned this week.

The Houses were once again full of life. Although the weather has been grey, our enthusiasm and energy have coloured the corridors and spaces at HZG, this start of the Spring Term.

Saturday afternoon sans matches, meant that the boarders were spoilt with a plethora of activities on offer. Art, DT, Nerf Wars, a football tournament (in the pouring rain), Minecraft battles, and an intense game of Stool Ball (where the senior girls narrowly beat the boys by 100 runs to 92) and Blackford Café, were amongst the offerings. After supper, the children headed to their common rooms, with treats awaiting.

Sunday morning saw the sunrise over the front lawn, promising a day full of fun. The first half of the day was dedicated to Tribal Team Challenges – where the children were divided into groups and competed against each other in 11 challenges. (Please see the photos – a special thank-you to Mrs Jenkins, for being our resident photographer for the morning). This took us up to lunch. And what a feast it was – roast beef with ALL the trimmings.

The Year 8s then boarded the buses and enjoyed a walk near Montacute House, called Ladies Mile whilst the rest of the boarders were treated to a Birds of Prey display, complete with a real-life vulture! As the sun began to set on the Somerset plains, the children headed back to their Houses, this time, with a hot chocolate and bag of popcorn in hand. A late afternoon movie signalled the end of the In-Weekend. Many thanks to all the staff on duty throughout the day – we certainly know how to put on a great show for the children; and the children were once again, fantastic company.
