Boarders Enjoyed a Beautiful Countryside Walk

It’s like someone flicked the switch on the weather. Yesterday’s weather was horrendous – driving rain, biting cold and howling wind but today, for our walk, we had beautiful blue skies and not a breath of wind.

After a scrumptious full English breakfast, we loaded the mini-buses and headed east towards the Wiltshire border and the woodlands behind Stourhead. We split into smaller groups and set off into the woods. Our circular walk saw us take in a water wheel, a pond, frozen puddles, dogs of all sizes and colours, a galloping horse and “a witch’s house”. The walk was 6 miles short although by the time we got back to school, the walk – like the fish I catch – had grown, to almost 10 miles!

In my last Sunday report, I waxed lyrical about the pure enjoyment I had experienced on the walk around the lake, well today was even better. There is something magical about being on a walk, in the countryside, leaving all the worries and distractions behind us. There were no grumbles or groans on the walk – the children were great company, and parents, this is proof that your children walked 6 miles without a complaint…so happy walking this holiday!

After a roast lunch, the children headed off to the bastion to play football, to the theatre to dance, to the IT suite to battle it out in a Minecraft world, and bicycle wheels and park-core echoed through the grounds.

Letter writing preceded movies (with popcorn) in the Houses.

Another day that keeps me, and all the dedicated and passionate boarding staff, smiling. Thank you, children! Next stop: Boarders’ Feast and the Inweekend festivities.
