Year 1 have been exploring the curious question of sharing

Year 1 have been exploring the curious question of sharing

Should sharing always be fair? A big question to kick off our week during the Festival of Curiosity.

Exploring fractions in maths, we explored how best we can share to make it fair. Asking some other questions along the way such as; would you share your last slice of birthday cake with someone who needed it more, or would you keep it for yourself? We explored the various ways of making halves and quarters with pizzas and even made ourselves toast.

However, that was not the only big question we had to answer this week. A curiosity cube appeared in the classroom. Filled with a single brick, straw and a stick, it had us thinking, AGAIN! What was it all about? It did not take the inquisitive Year 1s long to realise that in fact they were all clues to link us to our next story, ‘The Three Little Pigs’. This sparked a week’s worth of exploration into our homes and ourselves. Who are we and where have our families come from?
