Prep Trips

On Friday 16 September, Year 8 headed off to Lulworth Cove for an action-packed day of geography fieldwork.  It was lovely to have all our new Year 8s with us and to go on a field trip so early in the academic year. The weather was amazing – it was sunny all day!

There were two purposes to the day. Firstly, we followed up on our work on the coasts, looking at the features of erosion and deposition; there’s nothing like seeing landforms in real life to bring geomorphology to life! Secondly, we investigated our fieldwork enquiry question: “Is the excessive tourist activity damaging the landscape around Lulworth and Durdle Door?”

We collected a wealth of data to help answer this question, from measuring footpath erosion to landscape evaluation surveys, to determine whether facilities have been developed sensitively or not. Pupils designed their own questionnaires beforehand and asked members of the public their questions.  The next step is to produce graphs, based on the data we have collected and write them up, reaching conclusions that answer our enquiry question.  It’s great to have got the Year 8 Geography course off to such a good start!
