An Exciting Week In Music

Prep Music

We have started May with a wonderful week in the Music Department. On Tuesday, Mrs Sclater took a small group of instrumentalists for an orchestral day at Bryanston School.

Our Hazlegrove musicians joined a group of eight local prep schools to create an orchestra of over 100 children, with a huge array of instruments being played. The sight of so many musicians was a little overwhelming for some, but the children were very quickly put at ease by the very supportive music staff at Bryanston School. The day involved whole ensemble and sectional workshops, and culminated in a hugely impressive concert, including favourites such as The Dambusters March and our staff favourite, Watermelon Man.

Following this, Mrs Sclater was lucky enough to take another group of children to Sherborne School’s Jazz Day. Playing jazz music was a new experience for some, but all were inspired by the energetic tuition of Sherborne’s teachers as well as by its phenomenal Swing Band, who performed to the prep children during the day. The concert at the end of the day was another hugely enjoyable experience for our children and parents, as well as for Mrs Sclater, who made the most of being in the audience! All children tried their hand at improvising solos, which involved a great deal of confidence. Mrs Sclater was very proud of them all.
