Fireworks, tanks and a Chinese dinner are just a few of the things that the Hazlegrove boarders did this weekend.

On Friday night we were treated to a spectacular fireworks display. The amazing patterns and colours lit up the night sky and it truly was a magnificent visual feast. The finale was absolutely breathtaking, the sequences and shapes that were created were stunning. The bonfire was massive, and as usual it made short work of all the guys that were thrown on to it!

On Saturday afternoon there was a golf tournament and all our budding young golfers had a great time trying to get the lowest possible score around our six hole golf course. In the evening we were treated to an amazing Chinese dinner. Louise and her team really outdid themselves and it felt as if we had been transported to a top notch restaurant. The food was exquisite and it tasted divine.

On Sunday we woke up to a soggy and cold morning. This didn’t dampen our spirits as we headed off for the Tank Museum in Bovington. What a treat it was, “interactive and virtual reality heaven!” I don’t believe in the saying "Boys and their toys" anymore because it looked as though the girls were having as much or even more fun than the boys. One of the highlights was “The Trench Experience” depicting what it would really be like in a trench in France in 1916. The children enjoyed the experience as well as being reflective about how brave the soldiers were. Another favourite was the "Battle Group Afghanistan Exhibit." The children found this fascinating as over 20 of our pupils parents have served in Afghanistan and they had the opportunity to empathise with what some of their parents had to go through. Lots of the children also went in and out of all manner of tanks and were really interested to see how tanks have developed over time.

A great day was had by all! It was a very valuable, enjoyable and relevant trip because some of our pupils are from forces families and this allowed them to think about and appreciate what a vital and sacrificial job that their parents do. Leading into Remembrance week it also helped remind us about the debt of gratitude we owe to all those men and women who died fighting for the freedom we now enjoy.
