Academic Maths

Last week Years 3 to 5, and this week Year 6 to 8 have been having a lot of fun as we have focussed all of our attention in our maths lessons on the question, “What is the relevance of maths in the kitchen?”

In each of our maths lessons we have been exploring a wide range of mathematical projects and puzzles that demonstrate the significance and the role of maths, at all possible levels, in the kitchen. We have been estimating, measuring, converting units, preparing complicated recipes, drawing and constructing nets, planning parties, mind-mapping for a pop-up charity restaurant, taking advantage of bulk order discounts and recalibrating lists of ingredients when only five guests are expected but six people arrive for dinner.

In short we have been stretching and squeezing our brains and battling through some exciting and real world ‘maths in kitchen’ problems.
