Drama and Dance

An evening of wonderful performances, with an air of excitement from the children as they looked forward to being able to perform their Speech and Drama piece.

Jemima H opened the evening with an outstanding monologue, ‘Trojans’ by Simon Adorian, in which she played Cassandra. This, together with another piece, won her a Drama Scholarship to King's Bruton. The performances that followed, showcased the children’s recent LAMDA exam pieces and demonstrated why they achieved some splendid results.

Some interesting devised performances included ‘A Trip of a Lifetime’ by Oliver L and Jake F about a businessman who invited his friend on a trip under false pretences to win a luxury trip to the moon. Another, played by Honor B-G and Emily R, entitled the ‘The News Report’ featured a news reporter determined not to allow her colleague to join her team. Another amusing scene, played by Oliver P, Jimmy L and Alec de P was about two boys meeting a talking hippo in a forest. Fergus D and Justin W presented ‘Mother Goose’s Golden Christmas’ in which two wolves planned to make gold with some very strange ingredients. Daisy H and Reina E enacted a scene from ‘The Elevator’ which involved panic. Khadijah K B and Isabella F used convincing American accents in ‘Junior Miss’. Some well-known stories included ‘The Twits’, ‘Goodnight Mister Tom’, ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, ‘The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe’ and ‘The Hobbit’.

A total of 49 children featured in 23 performances. Every performer acted with confidence and all children had great fun performing a wide variety of pieces.

Thank you to all parents and particularly Mrs Mahony for some wonderful costumes! A special thanks also to all those who generously gave up their time to make this evening so entertaining, including Mrs Mansergh who leads a large team of make-up artists, Mrs Cran and Mr Shaw who helped backstage, Mrs Warren who organised the programme and took some wonderful pictures, Mr Holden who helped organise the evening and Mr Sebastian for providing some lovely refreshments! Finally, a huge thank you to all those who helped and took part and to parents who supported this evening. It was a great success!

Miss de la Poer.
