The day after the end of term, a group of children and staff were once again back at school ready to head off to the French Alps.  They enjoyed a fabulous week of snow, sunshine, skiing and fun and games at Les Orres.

After an overnight ferry crossing and coach trip, it was a great relief when we pulled up outside the Hotel La Portette in Les Orres to be welcomed by our fantastic hosts. The fact that it then started to snow, and proceeded to do so all night, was even better and we were delighted to wake up the next morning to find 30cm of fresh powder on which to begin our week!

The children were split up into groups based on their previous ski experience, and set off with their instructors for the week. The resort offered a fantastic mix of runs, from fun greens, through challenging blues and reds, to steep blacks, and the instructors from the ESF were fantastic at building the children’s confidence at the same time as challenging them and allowing them to progress. Over the course of the week there were lots of opportunities both to develop technique, as well as to enjoy the snow parks, and we were also privileged to see the national slalom championships being held on the same runs we were skiing every day.

Throughout the trip we were fantastically well looked-after by Tony, our rep, the instructors, and our hosts at the hotel. The skiing week finished in the beautiful sunshine that had characterised the week, with presentations of the children’s awards at the top of the mountain. The children were a real credit to themselves and the school, and it was wonderful to see the progress that they made on the slopes.
