Year 8 Learn about International Relations
It was wonderful to welcome Old Hazlegrovian Daniel back to School this week, where he joined Year 8 pupils to deliver an engaging session on International Relations.
Returning to the classroom was a particularly special experience for Daniel, as he was teaching in the very room where he once sat as a Year 5 pupil. Since leaving Hazlegrove, he has continued his education at King’s Bruton and is soon due to begin a degree in Politics and International Relations at university. Drawing on his knowledge of the subject, Daniel introduced pupils to the importance of trade in global relations, encouraging thoughtful discussion about the UK’s trading partners and exploring concepts such as sanctions, visible trade and invisible trade.
The talk supported Year 8’s Social Science studies this term, which focus on the ways countries work together through trade, alliances and during times of conflict. Building on this learning, pupils will take part in a trading simulation next week, where they will negotiate with fictional countries to secure the resources they require.
We are extremely grateful to Daniel for returning to Hazlegrove to share his passion for the subject and inspire our pupils with his knowledge and enthusiasm.
