A Busy Week for Pre-School

This week in Pre-School, we have been focusing on developing the children’s fine motor skills through a variety of fun and engaging activities. These experiences have helped to strengthen the children’s hands, fingers and wrists, while also supporting their hand-eye coordination.

The children have developed their fine motor skills through cutting exercises, threading beads, sewing, autumnal playdough, peg jigsaws and using tweezers to transfer objects from one container to another. The children have thoroughly enjoyed having a go at all of the activities and, much to our delight, have returned to them throughout the week to continue practising and developing their skills.

By popular demand, the children requested another listening walk! We put on our “listening ears” and headed out around the school grounds. This time, we discovered lots of different sounds, including a squeaky gate, the rumbling of a trolley and teachers talking to children in their classrooms. Once back in Pre-School, the children recorded themselves sharing the different sounds they had heard during our walk.

As part of our learning about farming, we have also been reading the story ‘The Little Red Hen’. The children have been learning to put the events of the story into the correct sequence, while also exploring the different parts of a sheaf of corn. We looked closely at the long stalks, the ears and the kernels, developing our understanding of where food comes from.

Next week, we will be delving further into ‘The Little Red Hen’ and continuing to build on our learning about farming.
